Meet the Journalist

Kiersten Riedford

I started in journalism as a volunteer for Current Publishing, an Indiana newspaper, when I was 12 years old.

In high school, I worked as a feature reporter and cover story editor for my high school’s newsmagazine, HiLite.

Upon entering DePaul University, I started my first day of college in 2021 as focus editor for The DePaulia, DePaul University's newspaper. Throughout my freshman to junior years, I also worked as the assistant news editor, news editor and design editor for The DePaulia.

The summer of 2023, I came back to Current as a reporting intern and worked as a freelancer for them throughout 2023.

From January 2024 to April 2024, I worked as a digital editorial intern for NBC Chicago, making content and copy for the website and socials.

In July 2024, I attended the Republican National Convention for NBC News as a student production runner. In August 2024, I was once again invited to be a student production runner for the Democratic National Convention for NBC News.

The experience over that summer decided my intrigue in broadcast journalism, marking a shift for me from digital journalism to broadcast.

Since beginning my final year of college in 2024, I worked relentlessly to learn broadcast writing, how to put together packages, use Adobe Premiere Pro and other necessary skills to thrive as a broadcast journalist as quickly as possible.

Outside of my journalism experience, during my time at DePaul, I have played on the DePaul club volleyball team for all four years, worked as an RA since August 2022, lead the college group at New Life Lincoln Park Community Church since 2023, served as the president of DePaul's chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists since 2023, and served as the Chair of Marketing & Communications for DePaul's Student Government Association since 2024.
